According to a human rights report released by the Protestant Churches Association of Turkey in early June, as of 2023, the number of Protestant churches in Turkey has increased to 205. However, these churches continue to suffer from violence and threats by Muslims. Last November, a pastor worshiping in Eskişehir Province was assaulted by someone who came in claiming to test how tolerant Christians are. Tepebaşı Church experienced threats from two individuals who threatened to set the church on fire. In December last year, Kurtuluş Church in Istanbul was attacked, with the landlord demanding eviction and breaking the church sign, no longer allowing church gatherings. Additionally, incidents of throwing stones and breaking windows at churches, including Eurasia Church in Istanbul, churches in Kayseri Province, and Amasya Province, have been reported.
In February 2023, in Hatay Province, where an earthquake occurred, a temporary kitchen set up by Christians to serve displaced persons was demolished, and the volunteers faced verbal insults disregarding their service and good deeds. According to the report, the Turkish authorities are currently obstructing worship in rented buildings or offices, complicating registration and renewal procedures, thereby reducing the support and benefits that churches can receive.
Psalm 50:21-23
These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face. "Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue: He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God."
Please Pray
May the churches in Turkey receive strong faith to maintain their steadfastness amidst all threats and difficulties. Let their work serving Muslims affected by the earthquake continue without hindrance. As they pray and seek solutions, may God provide wisdom and open paths.
Restore the spirit of martyrdom from the early church in this land, so the Turkish churches can fulfill their role in the final revival.
Rebuke the Muslims and government officials who persecute churches and disrupt worship, and let God's name be revealed to all creatures and souls in Turkey, causing them to tremble in fear. Accept the worship of the Turkish churches even in the midst of persecution and threats, and save this land.
